If Quoted, Be Smart

This quote sounds utterly ridiculous
"There was not anybody that I can remember that was black," she said. "The white people have theirs, and the black people have theirs. It's nothing racial at all."
It was in an article about a school in Georgia that is holding it's first integrated prom.
My reaction reading the headline: WHAAAATTTTT?????????
Read the article here.

Yeah, pretty wild. It's easy for me to take things for granted because we live in the triangle, but if you go far enough out into the county you'll meet all sorts of people with those old-timey sentiments. Similar things happen in the city, though. :( I went to a 4th of July picnic at Stone Mountain Park in Georgia a few years ago and the main picnic area was totally segregated... Imagine a football field-sized area with blacks filling one half and whites filling the area. Really sad.

I think everyone in those environments are to blame. :( The girl in that prom article talked about the black folks not feeling welcome, and to be honest, there's probably some truth to that... Think of our church, on the contrary. Look at the music. It's relatively diverse and not terribly exclusive. But if you go to a predom black church you won't get any acoustic guitar and if you go to a predom white church you won't get the upbeat, contemporary gospel flavor that most blacks are used to. So, those who really care about reconciliation humble themselves to meet others half way, like I'm sure these high school students are working to do. Good work!
