"The Pit Break-Up"
Update: It turns out that this was a publicity stunt after all.
"Burke said the breakup was an experiment to show the power of Internet communities and the amount of money that companies make from them." Read here.

There was a student out in The Pit at UNC yesterday (Valentines' Day) who set it up to break up with his girlfriend publicly. What I heard was that she had cheated on him, and he got the word out to hundreds of students via Facebook who all gathered in the Pit at a particular time to watch the free episode of Jerry Springer. He got her there by telling her he had gotten an a cappella group to serenade her for Valentine's day. Well, she got serenaded alright. The song was the Dixie Chicks' "I'm Not Ready to Make Nice". Some people were sitting on walls and others were watching from the windows of the dining hall next door and some were even in trees.
Wow. That's nerve to gather a crowd like that. She's a @#$%! for cheating on him, but I think that kind of public humiliation is going a bit too far.
The thing is up on YouTube and Google. It's like a train wreck, but I just had to watch. I won't post a link, to spare those of you with a more discerning palate, but if you want to watch it on YouTube it's called "The Pit Breakup".
Karin said it well: "he looks like a fraternity jerk". Yep, he does. As heartless as she was to cheat on him, I have to admit that I'm impressed that she stuck around to "talk" afterwards. What's funny is that she politely complimented the girls on their singing!
Warning: the video contains expletives once the two get into it after the song. It gets VERY Jerry Springer.
HAPPY VALENTINES' DAY.
