How did you find such a word?

I have a special request. Can the next word of the day be a Japanese word? I'm serious!

I needed a 4-letter word ending in "ase" for a crossword puzzle I was close to finishing. I went to Dictionary.com and literally typed in every letter in front of "ase" in searching for the word.
Unfortunately, "wase" wasn't the word I was looking for. In fact, it turns out I had put the wrong word down in a crossing row and had to correct that.
Of course, now I can't remember the clue.
